A Glasgow-based company, NIXON, has been appointed to work with Southside Housing Association to survey more than 3000 of its properties.
Quantity Surveyors within the multi-disciplinary team are appointed to provide surveys and reinstatement cost assessments to some 3,500 properties in the Southside. The properties owned or factored by Southside Housing Associated (SHA) are being surveyed by the team to provide up-to-date valuations, as set out in RICS guidelines.
Director of NIXON Richard McFadzean welcomed the appointment. He said: “Southside Housing Association has a strong ethos of putting the community at the heart of its activities. This is the latest in a series of appointments for NIXON by local housing associations to ensure its housing stock is properly valued and subsequently adequately insured. We look forward to continuing our relationship and working with like-minded organisations in 2020 which chime with our own values.”
Southside Housing Association is currently updating its buildings insurance policies and, as part of this process, new up-to-date reinstatement valuations are being provided by NIXON for its properties.
Reinstatement valuations fully cover the cost to demolish, clear the site, rebuild properties to the same specification, as well as covering associated legal and professional fees in the event of a major loss. The Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) guidelines recommend that a major review and reassessment every three years, or earlier, should occur if significant alterations are made to the insured properties.

We have operated as a social landlord on the south side of Glasgow for over forty years. Originally established as Pollokshields Housing Association in 1971, our initial work was largely philanthropic in nature. Our early single unit refurbishments were driven by a desire to improve housing standards in the Pollokshields area.
