Our one-stop-shop approach means that as a multi-disciplinary company, we work together with our teams of quantity surveyors, architects and engineers, together with our partners, and sub-contractors, to achieve our shared goals.

Richard McFadzean

Founder and Managing Director

Richard is the Founder and Managing Director of NIXON, established in 2011. He is an entrepreneurial and results-driven leader, turning NIXON from a one-person operation into a full development and construction company that provides a one-stop-shop solution for our clients.

Bringing project management, quantity surveying, civil and structural engineering and Architectural services under one roof, Richard has overseen the growth and expansion of all operations. He leads a varied team of skilled professionals and has worked extensively on major multi-million pound contracts across multiple sectors, primarily in residential developments as well as hotel and leisure industries.

Richard’s vision was to create a construction company that was dynamic and forward-thinking and provided a one-stop-shop solution for its clients.

 

Dominic MacConnell

Director

Dominic leads the team from an operational perspective, driving forward many of the company’s multi-million pound projects.

As an experienced quantity surveyor and project manager and qualified CDM practitioner, Dominic has more than 20 years’ industry experience. He is a senior member of the board and has led on extensive projects, notably as the employer’s agent on a £40million GDV project at Scotway House and the reinstatement of Lancefield Quay, a city landmark in Glasgow, which was extensively damaged by fire and restored to its original build.

Dominic works across various sectors including providing project management and quantity surveying services for buildings, refurbishments and maintenance works; working closely within the hotel, leisure and hospitality industry (pre-contract and post-contract); delivering commercial and facilities management and professional services for insurance damage reinstatement works. Dominic is responsible for implementing NIXON’s strategy and recruiting the best people to drive the company forward.

Tony Slevin

Director

Tony is an experienced project manager, quantity surveyor and principal designer and a member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). He has worked across multiple disciplines on many noteworthy projects with brands such as Courtyard by Mariott, Hotel Indigo by IHG, and voco by IHG and completed the transformation of hotels for Manorview Hotels & Leisure Group, Cairn Hotel Group, and Macdonald Hotels & Resorts. 

Leading our teams of professionals, Tony worked with the team to complete the reinstatement of Lancefield Quay, along the River Clyde, and manages quantity surveying, civil & structural engineering and architectural services for ng homes. He also carries out extensive project monitoring work for lenders such as Goldentree Financial Services. 

Tony’s experience covers every aspect of quantity surveying, project management and CDM advice from inception to completion on all types of build contracts. He provides a range of services including project management, cost management and construction design management services within residential, commercial, leisure, and licensed trade sectors. 

Sam Smithers

Associate Director of Architecture

Sam is an award-winning architect and heads up the architecture department at NIXON. A highly motivated individual, he has worked for some of Scotland’s leading practices and his designs include Glasgow University’s South staircase and McLaren’s first Scottish showroom in Bothwell, Glasgow. His experience spans across multiple sectors including residential, commercial, hotel, retail and healthcare. 

An experienced architect, Sam oversaw the extension to the voco St John’s Hotel in Solihull and, most recently, he completed the restoration of Lancefield Quay in Glasgow.  

Lancefield Quay is a landmark apartment site along the River Clyde which was devastated by a fire. Sam, alongside the NIXON team, worked to restore the apartments back to their original form and to return residents to their homes. The reinstatement needed to ensure the build was seamless and fitting with surrounding apartments, while also allowing for internal alterations to enhance, modernise and upgrade bathrooms and kitchens/living areas to make them as efficient and sustainable as possible. Sam’s attention to detail, collaboration with residents, and his drive to accept a challenge and deliver, are qualities he brings to each and every project.  

Sam is currently the lead architect on a new 34-apartment new build in Paisley, The Millhouse. This multi-million pound development will transform the look and feel of a key corner site in the town and is a project which brings the full team of professionals together as part of our one-stop-shop approach.  

Craig Sorley

Commercial Director

Craig manages NIXON’s construction-arm and is a qualified quantity surveyor. He has completed a number of residential builds including the completion of 32 contemporary apartments in Paisley, Riverside Walk, and a further 27 luxury apartments in Glasgow’s Dennistoun area. He is currently leading the quantity surveying and project management of 34 contemporary new apartments in Paisley, a landmark site opposite the town’s 12th century Abbey.   

As an experienced project manager, he manages multiple teams, sub-contractors, negotiates prices and contracts, and ensures cost controlling on each project. Craig works across multiple disciplines within the residential and construction sector, managing the budget of multi-million pound projects, and driving forward the company’s construction-arm which is a growing area of NIXON’s business and offering to clients.  

Roisin-Alana Di Giacomo

Brand, Communications and Marketing

Responsibility for all communications, brand and marketing collateral is delivered by Roisin-Alana Di Giacomo, who works with a team of graphic designers, website designers, and marketeers to achieve brand consistency and raise the profile of the company.

With a background in communications and public affairs, she has worked for a number of large public and private organisations and a wide range of clients. She knows the importance of timely and accurate communications across all platforms. Her role is to increase the profile of NIXON, protect the brand, and drive the company forward through strategic brand, communications and marketing.

She tells the story about our company and runs Digital Pop Shop, a one-stop-shop for brand, communications and marketing.

Stewart Thomson

Quantity Surveyor

Stewart is a project manager and quantity surveyor working alongside Dominic MacConnell and Tony Slevin. A graduate from Strathclyde University with Honours in Economics followed by a Masters in Quantity Surveying from Glasgow Caledonian University, Stewart works across NIXON’s multi-disciplinary practice. 

He provides project management and quantity surveying services and is responsible for ensuring the project contracts are administered and all interim valuations are prepared and issued in accordance with the contract. He arranges the pre-contract tendering process, preparation of tender documents, evaluation and analysis of tenders and preparation of report for multiple stakeholders. Stewart manages cost planning, liaises with stakeholders, and regularly updates the clients on commercial matters through regular communications. He is also has experience of working on NEC contracts.  

Together with Dominic MacConnell, he is working on Midsteeple Quarter, a regeneration community project in Dumfries. This 18-month project will see the transformation of a disused site into a creative hub, co-working spaces and residential apartments on the upper floor, restoring an area of the high street into a vibrant and thriving community area.  

William Ewing

Architect

William has vast experience when putting together masterplanning and urban design proposals, detailed design BIM, 3D modelling, planning proposals, building warrants, and tender packages. He uses a variety of drawing packages including AutoCAD, Revit, Vectorworks and Photoshop and Microsoft Office software.

Previously William has held positions at Mosaic Architecture & Design, BMJ Architects, Page Architects, and Gordon Murray Architects, where he worked as an architect on a variety of projects including residential and teaching and learning projects, varying in size and scale. William works closely with architectural director Sam Smithers on all NIXON’s projects including residential builds, hospitality projects and supporting our teams as a fully integrated construction company.

Colin McIntyre

Development Director

Colin is a qualified architect with more than 30 years’ experience in architecture and development. Graduating from the Mackintosh School of Architecture in 1985, Colin is a member of the ARB in the UK. He has worked at senior partner and director level in a number of privately-owned architecture and project management companies.

He was the former head of development at Quality Street Limited, where he was responsible for all new site acquisitions and planned maintenance and refurbishment of 5,000 properties within its rental portfolio. He has a great understanding of the property market from all angles. Colin’s experience and attention to detail are an asset to the design team where he is heavily involved in the construction of developments including The Millhouse Paisley and The Picture House in Dennistoun.

Karen O’Hagan

Office Manager

Holding everything together is Karen our exceptionally organised office manager. She runs the logistics for NIXON and allows the team to get on with the day job. Karen has previous experience at working for high-level executives before joining NIXON in its foundation years. She manages all the day-to-day activities, working to support the team and performing secretarial duties and updating financial operations. Every great team needs a Karen.

Sean Morin

Site Manager

Sean is a site manager with significant experience in construction from pre-construction to handover and maintenance. He manages staff and sub-contractors and successful works to ensure communications between his team and the design team are successfully integrated.

McTaggart Construction, Stewart Milne Homes, Manor Kingdom, Bett Homes and Avant Homes are among some of Sean’s previous employers showing his wealth of experience. Responsible for all management and co-ordination of site activities, Sean ensures that all processes are compliant with Health & Safety and CDM regulations. Monitoring, reporting and providing good communication with stakeholders is essential to Sean’s role which he performs to consistently deliver projects on time and on budget.  

Louise Bishop

Office Administrator

Louise manages all aspects of administration for NIXON Construction, working closely with Craig Sorley and site managers across our developments. She manages the process for all purchase orders, invoices and finance. She is the first point of contact for the construction-arm of NIXON and liaises between the site offices and our HQ at Canal House. Louise is efficient and has a strong work ethic and her experience allows her to provide the necessary support to our onsite teams. She is a key member of the NIXON team.   

  

Craig Burns

Intern

Craig is an intern who joined NIXON as part of our internship programme. He is currently studying Built Environment at Glasgow City College and is spending time with us to get experience of working within the construction industry. By shadowing alongside our teams of quantity surveyors, project managers and construction experts, Craig is able to see work from inception to completion and gain a better understanding of what we do, how we do it, and what it is like to work in the industry. Craig has ambitions to complete a degree in Quantity Surveying following on from his college course.
