We are delighted to welcome John McColgan to NIXON. He is a veteran in the construction industry bringing nearly 50 years’ experience.
Starting straight out of school, John joined Taylor Wimpey before training to be an apprentice joiner. Admittedly he has worked on thousands of homes throughout Scotland for a number of housebuilders including CCG, McTaggart Construction, McCarthy and Stone, Bellway to name a few as well as working on the agency side.
John will be leading the construction of our new apartments in Paisley, The Millhouse Paisley, which is a multi-million investment in the Bridge Street area of the town, boasting incredible views of the town’s historic Abbey.
The construction of The Millhouse Paisley will create a number of construction jobs as well as employing the services of other professionals, including joiners, builders and the like. It is hoped that the number of construction workers on site will also be a boost to the local shops while the site is operational.
John said: “I liked the look and feel of the company and the builds they are working on like The Picture House in Dennistoun and Paisley’s new Millhouse apartments.
“I’ve been working in construction since I left school and that’s nearly 50 years so, I suppose, you could say that I have had a varied experience but ultimately we’re all building homes, homes for people to live in and that’s something that’s not changed.”
Speaking of his experience in construction through the span of his career, John added:
“There always needs to be more investment in training at site level. We constantly need more skilled labourers and this can only happen when there is more training and investment. This has to come from both the private and public sectors as we all benefit from a skilled workforce which is needed on every site.
“My hope is that we continue to invest and I see people grow in a company and build a good life for themselves and others.”
